Corten steel

Corten steel

Corten steel is a metal alloy. The combination of metals creates a dense oxidation layer. This rust layer protects when exposed to varying weather conditions. Corten steel lasts more than eight times longer than common types of metal.

All corten steel products we sell still have the appearance of "clean" metal. The warm natural color is formed by a natural rusting process. You can speed up this rusting process.

This can be done as follows:

First degrease the sample with a cleaning agent. Dissolve 3 large tablespoons of salt in 10 liters of water. Apply the salt solution generously with a plant sprayer or watering can.

The rusting process can also be stopped. When the corten steel has acquired the desired rust color, you can treat the metal animal with corten steel varnish.

Black powder coated

You can read the properties of Corten steel above. Some of our products are also available in the 'black powder coated' version.

The Corten steel products are first dipped in a liquid that seals the metal from moisture. The animals are then given an electrostatic coating. Then the products are heated in the oven. This makes the material wear-resistant and moisture-resistant.

Sometimes the powder coat cannot penetrate into the smallest nooks and crannies. Because the steel is Corten steel, the rust does not penetrate further under the paint and the powder coat layer remains nice and tight. If there are any rust spots, they are only visible if you observe the animal from very close.
